FAQ's

Do I have to have plain sponge cake?

Not at all! I offer lots of yummy flavours and if you can't decide, why not have a different flavour for each tier.

How long will the cake last?

Sponge Cake, uncut, will normally last for 5-7 days after purchase if kept in a cool dry place, not in a fridge and once the cake is cut it should be kept airtight to retain the freshness. Fruit Cake, uncut and stored in a cool dry place can keep for years!

Does my cake come in a box?

All cakes are securely packed in an appropriate cake box.

How do I pay for my cake?

Once a design is agreed, a non-refundable 50% deposit is required by bank transfer, cash or PayPal to secure your event date. Final payment is due 2 weeks before the event and 4 weeks before for weddings. If the cake order is required at short notice (within 14 days), full payment is required at time of booking.

Do I collect or do you deliver?

You can collect from Warrington Road, Goose Green, WN3 6QF

OR For a small charge I can deliver your cake to your home or to your venue. Delivery charges vary dependent upon distance – please ask for more info.

How much notice do you require to make a bespoke decorated cake?

The more notice the better, especially if it requires a number of handmade decorations, figures or flowers. As every cake is made freshly for when you need it I may not be able to fit in last minute orders during busy periods, if I do have availability I would be more than happy to take on any last minute orders, enquiries can be made at katiescakeswigan@gmail.com or via Facebook page www.facebook.com/katiescakeswigan

Are all decorations on the cake edible?

Yes for the majority of my cakes, unless otherwise stated, I hand make all decorations and figurines out of sugarpaste, so they are fully edible. Please be aware to remove any supports inside, such as dowels which hold the structure together.

How should I transport and store my cake?

On collection of your cake, I advise placing the boxed cake flat and secure in the foot well of the car or in an empty car boot. Katies Cakes will not be held responsible for any damage to the cake once it has left the premises. Please always carry cake boxes from the bottom and not the sides, and avoid placing anything above that may fall onto the cake box during transit. On the seat or on somebody’s lap is not recommended.

It is advised that all cakes are stored safely in their box in a cool dry area, not in direct sunlight and not in the fridge unless instructed to do so.

Can you make an allergen free cake?

Because of how my kitchen is operated there is no space for a specialised section to keep completely free from allergens therefore there is a risk it could contain some trace amounts of the 14 allergens listed under EU law but please get in touch to discuss further
